Hello! I'm Juan Pablo Díaz.

I'm a Designer and guitar lover 🎸.

First, I love to have fun and enjoy life! I have an amazing wife and daughter that bring me all the joy in life. 👨‍👩‍👧

As an experienced designer, I possess a wealth of knowledge in various areas of design, including design thinking, lean startup, agile methodologies, and creative problem-solving. I am proud to have co-founded Emerald Digital Entertainment, a game studio where I led the development of mobile games. My tenure at Bancolombia's Innovation Center further expanded my expertise in human-centered design, while my current role as UX/UI design lead at Nequi has allowed me to apply my skills to create intuitive and simple user interfaces.

Highlights of my timeline:

  • 1986-1999

    My Humble Beginnings

Born in Bogotá-Colombia  , raised in Medellín-Colombia. During this time is where I grew up with Nintendo, SNES and N64 games. My father had a computer store in Medellín and that’s where I played many PC games with my brother Rodrigo when we were kids.

  • 2000-2004

    Life in the USA

Moved to the United States with my family to learn English. We first arrived at Manassas-Virginia, where I went to high school for 2 years. Then we moved to Clearwater-Florida, and I finished my High School diploma at Countryside High School.

  • 2004-2008

    College Experience

Went to St. Petersburg College to study graphic design. I got my A.S. degree in Print design in 2007. During this time is when I bought my first guitar (a Fender American Strat).

  • 2009-2014

    "Real" graphic designer

My family and I came back to Medellín. I went to college to complete my B.A. in Graphic design. I got my degree at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in 2014. Since 2013 my brother and I co-created a game group in which we have created 2 games (Meteorz and FSCA). We have also published a game called Bump Bump Bump. We are working now on new projects and have created an asset for unity.

  • 2015-2020

    Human centered design

This is when I first started on Colombia's biggest bank Bancolombia at the innovation department. This is where I felt in love with the methodologies and used them to find real user pains. I learned about design thinking, service design, Lean Startup, and others.

  • 2020-Present

    Back on the drawing board

Even though I loved creating stuff from scratch, I felt it was time for me to start designing again and I got a job as a Lead UI Designer at Nequi (Which is a digital bank made by Bancolombia). My major accomplishment here was to create the new Design System and Icons in collaboration with the design team. I also got to be the PO (PO/UX/UI) at the time of the new app launch.
